Packaging boxes can be turned into VR glasses. The concept was put forward by Google. They applied for a patent for this purpose and designed it to “combine the smartphone with the VR head.”
By turning the smartphone’s box into a pair of glasses that can be viewed directly, Google’s move is to make VR glasses more accessible and cheaper.
In 2014, Google released Cardboard，a low-cost basic VR tool, Cardboard quickly captured the market. At the same time, Cardboard is also sent as a gift by many brands. It is cheap and allows users to experience the fun of VR. This new patent is similar to the Cardboard, except that the Cardboard board is directly packaged into a mobile phone. This design is simple, but special, especially for those Daydream Ready phones, the phone box is a direct view of the Cardboard.
This patent application was mentioned on February 24, 2016 in Google’s patent description, preferring Cardborad instead of Daydream View. The part of the package refers to the use of “glue” or “tape”, the material is cardboard, and the use of “plastic” is also mentioned.
